THE QUESTION

Change...It's possible today...RIGHT?
Several years ago a (now deceased) rapper put out a song entitled Changes. Where the chorus says to crime, drugs and black violence..."that's just the way it is, somethings will never change"

Although that's how he felt before being killed himself due to violence. I don't believe that in my heart. I can not accept that as a people, black people are killing one another...AND THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS?! No matter what color you are...how can any of use accept the genocide of a race?! Men, women and children. As I turn on the television this morning...6:30 in the morning!!! Getting ready to go to work early, I see on the news, four people murdered...ANOTHER FAMILY GONE!

It's clear to me, that the new civil rights movement has to be an evolution of morality and integrity and self worth! Is this what Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed of, when he wanted to see black people free?! OF COURSE NOT! But now that we have arrived in this promised land of freedom...now through crime, drugs and violence we enslave ourselves! While our country fights a war on terror. We fight to preserve a country that's destroying itself in the biggest inner cities! We are tired of people being killed, people losing their lives! Notice, I didn't say we're all tired, because there are enemies out there praying on the innocent. Waiting to strike and take away our breath. ADULTS, CHILDREN, BLACK, WHITE, MEXICAN...WHATEVER! We are all at risk to the monster we've created in these times through violent and vulgar entertainment, the manufacturing and selling of drugs.

Change, can come if WE like Martin Luther King JR. did...WAKE UP! SPEAK UP! GET TIRED OF...! And fight for our right to live in this world without violence! We as a country, can no longer afford to turn a blind eye to all the things we know are bad influences on our society. If we continue in the direction we're going...how long will we have a nation to defend against terror?

You are absolute right that the violence affect not only Blacks, but also Hispanics, Whites and all other people of our society. The awareness has been stirred now it's time to take action. All families have to work together to step up to the parenting plate. I'm a grandparent who has not hung up the parenting responsibilitie. I have rolled up my sleeves and I help my children raise their chilcren as needed. If we are to see things change we have to be with our children to set the right kinds of examples. Children may not always listen to what we say, but they always pay attention to what we do, how we live our lives. Nothing is "just the way it is" if some things (and we know many things need to chnge) are not right, then we have to make them right.

Daleh07, Bill Cosby and Dr. Poussaint's book Come On People not only shows us that we, America, have a problem but also provides a vision of hope and practical steps in address these problems. First and foremost is to take personal responsibility inspite of systemic hurdles presented by the powers that be. Have you read the book? If so, what lessons will you apply?

Also, in the "entertainer" under "current interests", Bill Cosby is working on a "rap" CD titled "State of Emergency" that is suppose to be available soon.
