By opening their eyes to something beautiful. A lot of troubled kids I have run across are amazed when they see something extraordinary. Sometimes they are surrounded by ugliness, hate, violence and forget that the world can be a beautiful place.

My friend's mom is an environmental teacher for LAUSD. Once a semester she takes under-privileged kids on a trip into the wilderness--away from the city. It never ceases to amaze her how many of her kids are transformed by that. And while nature isn't exactly the same as the arts, I think this is a similar phenomenon when kids are taken to museums.

Totally!!! Unfortunately the art form that young kids are into is rapp music. I do believe it is an art form but it is to negative, and doesn't do anything for them. Young kids need to get into other art forms. Other types of music, playing an instrument, singing, dancing. Using there hands through woodworking, arts and crafts, ceramincs, automobile restoration, or anyone of a number of things that are out there. If young people were more involved in the arts, they wouldn't have the desire or oportunity to get into drugs, and they would be better off. Whenever we have the chance we should take the time to expose our youg kids into more arts and more positive activities
