You have to work so hard, because good jobs are a rarity and in a flagging economy there are often more people in competition for those limited positions. And THAT'S why finishing school, keeping out of jail, taking pride in your appearance (regardless of your fashion preference) and challenging yourself are all so important. Your resume tells a potential employer only what your skill set *might* be. The interview tells them who you are and how you might fit into their organization.
You've got to work hard for a job because the "easy stuff" that was worth a damn was taken a long, long time ago.
