THE QUESTION

What can we do?
I am a white teacher in an urban district. During lunch duty, if our black vice-principal is present, the kids behave. When she is NOT there the kids act as if the other teacher (also white) are not in the room. They defy us every chance they get. If we try to implement consequences we are told we can't because it is demoralizing to the kids. The Vice hollers at them and uses racial slurs to get them to behave. Of, course we would NEVER even consider that because THAT, i would think, would be the demoralizing thing. When they refuse to respect us and the rules WE get in trouble. HELP!!! What can we do? The principal will not step in, in fact that is who holds us 'acountable'. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
